The Mission Statement |
What are we as a church about? We are on a critical mission—God’s mission. Some of us tend to take the scenic route through life’s journey. Others are simply on cruise control. Churches are no different. Success or achievement, such as reaching a desired goal or destination, is sometimes difficult to attain without a map and some mileposts along the journey to tell us exactly where we are. We have heard the old axiom: The shortest distance between two points is a straight line. If we, as a church, are to avoid many of these detours, we must have a purpose, a vision, and a mission for our church’s journey. We, as a congregation, must be able to respond to the questions of why we are here and what are we to do once we arrive. That is where a formal mission statement becomes critical. Who are we? What are we about? What does God want us to be? To do? Individual churches must determine what mission God has for them and a vision of how to accomplish it. The ultimate goal of the Christian and the church is to glorify our God. (1 Corinthians 10:31) No matter what else we accomplish, if we have not brought glory to our Lord we have failed. The only way to glorify God is to live in obedience to His Word. Therefore, the call of this church must always be to demonstrate our love for our Lord through our obedience to His Word. |

All Pulling Together |
As previously noted, First Christian Church uses the acronym TEAM in its mission statement. The link chain and hands pulling together are appropriate symbols for a mission statement. Churches, like athletic teams, must pull together to obtain maximum results. A successful team has balance and relies on diverse talents and ideas. Success or failure may often depend on the weakest link. Each of us must continuously strengthen our link through replenishment of our spiritual life through prayer and worship. At First Christian Church, we feel that teamwork is critical in doing God’s will. God gave each of us unique talents to use for glorifying His Kingdom. We, As Christians, must teach our world, our country, and our community about our Lord. We must emphasize and proclaim from the summit of the mountain that Jesus Christ is Lord and is the only relevant answer to all questions! We must articulate our faith and live it on a daily basis. We must minister to all about the saving grace through Jesus Christ. |
